The app that once revolutionized texting will now make payments convenient.
WhatsApp has a global user base exceeding 2 billion. That is more than 25.64% of the entire global population! This statistic is a solid proof of its significance and popularity in the market. Recently, WhatsApp introduced two significant features: WhatsApp payments and WhatsApp shopping. Both of which have the potential to make it one of the world’s largest payment and shopping platform. These are very important tools for businesses. Hence, in this article we discuss how to enable WhatsApp Pay UPI and WhatsApp Shopping.
What is WhatsApp Pay UPI?
In November 2020, WhatsApp released a new feature (WhatsApp Payments) which allows users to send and receive payments through UPI on the app itself. This feature had been in development for over 3 years and released only recently. As of November 2020, it is available only in India.
What is WhatsApp Shopping?
An increment to WhatsApp Businesses, this feature lets users view the catalog of all products and services offered by the concerned business. On WhatsApp business accounts with a catalog, the call button would be replaced with a store button (android)/ (iOS). Clicking on it would open up the catalog of the business. Instead of two different call buttons one for voice and the other for video, there would be a single call button which opens up to offer both the calling options.
This is a very important feature since it would prompt users to buy products and that too conveniently. Combined with WhatsApp payments, this would provide a very seamless experience to buyers and sellers alike. Especially in countries like India where the unorganized retail sector is dominant, WhatsApp Pay and WhatsApp Shopping would indeed revolutionize payments.
Like WhatsApp is making payments easy, Zapingo is making it easy to find offers 😉
How WhatsApp shopping will help businesses against COVID
WhatsApp Shopping and WhatsApp Pay helps Small Business owners and other players in the unorganized retail segment to curb the losses arising from COVID.
The COVID scare has led people to refrain from going out on shopping sprees. Until the aftermath of COVID is taken care of and businesses are up and running again, WhatsApp can be effective in reviving demand and help businesses get on track (provided the delivery or receipt of goods and services is taken care of by the involved parties). WhatsApp Shopping is akin to an interface that helps buyers and sellers meet and transact in the local market. For instance, a kirana store serving a small locality of people would much rather prefer to deal to people of his locality through WhatsApp Business rather than going online to find buyers. With the option to curate a catalog, the store owner will easily let the customers know what they can buy. Realizing the significance and the potential of this feature, we sought to educate our readers on how to enable WhatsApp Pay UPI on their accounts.
How to use WhatsApp for Business
Not every business owner or player in the unorganized retail segment is tech-savvy. However, they have to keep up with the advancements in technology since they know all too well the expense of missing out on newer practices. This means they have to create business listings, maintain a website and their social media profiles! Isn’t that a whole lot of work? With WhatsApp business enabling users to buy and sell through the app itself, the need to have a website or social media profile would decrease to some degree. The exact impact of which would obviously be much more clear in the following months.
How to use WhatsApp pay?
Now, let us discuss how to set up WhatsApp Pay and how to send money through it. It is important to remember that users can send money only to their contacts. However, they can scan QR codes to send money to people outside their contact list. Note that the person the money is being sent to (the recipient) must have enabled WhatsApp Payments in order to receive it. If the recipient has not enabled WhatsApp payments and linked his/her UPI enabled bank account, they would not be able to receive the payment.
